“Masking Who I Am” by Andrea Aguilar, 18, Pasadena City College
It’s ironic, but the whole idea of my work is not to hide who I am culturally or personally, but to reveal it. Being half Guatemalan and half Mexican, I chose a handmade mask given to me by my cousin who had traveled to Guatemala. It resembles a Mayan mask. What better than a living, breathing culture which still produces great art for my own art?
